Industry-University Cooperation New Technology Trend Seminar
The DSU Regional-Industry-Academic Cooperation Center has launched its operations in earnest.

For its first event, on February 9, the Industry University Cooperation New Technology Trend Seminar was held at Centum Hotel in Haeundae. Hosting was the Busan Regional-Industry-Academic Cooperation Center Number 9, a branch center of the Busan Regional-Industry-Academic Cooperation Center at the university’s Centum Campus which opened in November last year and is operated in conjunction with Busan Techno Park.

The event was attended by Won Gwang-hae, Director of the Busan Techno Park Regional-Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, as well as: 20 promising local startups such as You Can Star; Jeong Deo-woon, Director of the DSU Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation; and 9 mentor professors from DSU. Many opinions and ideas were shared at the event, while Director Won explained the role of the various centers in acting as key bases for Busan’s ongoing renewal as an innovative city for industry-academia cooperation.

The main focus of the event two special lectures. First, one on the hot topic of the metaverse industry by Choi Jae-yong, President of the Korea Metaverse Research Institute, then another on current technology trends given by Park Seonghwan, Director of the DSU Technology Management Center, who also gave an introduction to the Industry-Academia Joint Project of the DSU Startup Support Group.

Director Jeong said, “Busan has the highest aging index among metropolitan cities in the country. In addition, the decrease of the schoolage population, the outflow of local talent, and the weakening of the competitiveness of local businesses are important issues that local governments, businesses, and universities must contemplate and solve together. Dongseo University, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, has made many various efforts to grow together with the local community since its establishment. We will continue to provide support so that local businesses can utilize the excellent infrastructure and resources our university possesses to help them grow.”

Prior to the opening of the Busan Regional-Industry-Academic Cooperation Center Number 9 at the DSU Centum Campus, the main Busan Regional-Industry-Academic Cooperation Center was opened in August 2021 within the Yangjeong Branch of Busan Techno Park to fulfill a core promise of Mayor Park Hyeong-joon, which was the creation of an innovative city for industryacademia cooperation. Each branch center carries out specialized tasks that utilize their strengths, maximizing the human and material capabilities of each region and locality of Busan under the Local Industry Studies concept first created by Mayor Park to emphasize the role of local governments in nurturing cooperation and development between industry and academia.
